- Tapered bearing is a must have for modern railway industry
EPK takes part in the trade fair for railway transport technology InnoTrans 2016 in Berlin from 20 to 23 September. According to Railway Gazette, InnoTrans is the largest railway industry event in the world. EPK will exhibit the tapered bearings of cassette type, radial roller bearings with cylindrical and spherical rollers for an axle equipment of wheel pairs of railway rolling stock and ball and roller bearings for a traction motors. The tapered bearings of cassette type (TBU) fill the special place among them.
Tapered bearing that EPK will present in Berlin is produced at the modern joint venture of EPK and American company Amsted Rail – OOO EPK Brenco Bearing company. The venture is located in Saratov.
The main advantage of tapered bearing which currently has a status of innovative product in Russia is an increased period of operation. It can provide guaranteed trouble-free operation for 8 years or 800 000 kilometers. The operation period of TBU bearings exceeds the characteristics of cylindrical bearings by 2 times. However, cylindrical bearings are equipped in most of rolling stock in the region of 1520 (mainly in Russia) nowadays.
According to Eduard Belyaev, Director of railway bearings sales department OOO TD EPK, “TBU bearings in comparison of cylindrical bearings have several advantages. They require no maintenance throughout the warranty period, have increased run, and provide higher capacity of vehicle. TBU bearing has a joint unit unlike cylindrical bearing. It has special seals that ensure weathering resistance and adjusted to internal clearance. Lubrication inside the bearing has reformed qualities. The installation work is more advanced and less time consuming. Finally, the main benefit is cost reduction of attendance and repair.
In March 2016 OOO EPK Brenco Bearing Company obtained the license for conducting repair works in the amount established by the whole manufactured product range. Competence of the innovative product implementation was confirmed by EPK.
Implementation of innovative product – is an expensive and time consuming process. At the moment tapered bearings are not very common on the Russian railroads.
EPK participation in InnoTrans 2016 corresponds with new business interests of the Company – cooperation with manufacturers of railway equipment from Germany and complete set for carriages from European railroads.
Evidently, that introduction of the Russian products to the European market is linked with conducting certain amount of work on adaptation of manufacture technology of components for railway equipment and design variants which are standardized in Russia in order to aim the conformity to European standards.
Bearing products for the railway industry that EPK will exhibit meet the European standard EN 12080. EPK enterprises are certified according to the International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS).
Business program of InnoTrans 2016 is up to the change of technology process. International conference “Railway engineering: partnership of manufacturers “1520 and 1435” will be held at the Hotel Sofitel Berlin Kurfürstendamm on 21 September 2016. Topics that will be raised: project “Industry 4.0”, an overview of the future rail stock, “Mobile future thinking”.
EPK has a membership in Non-commercial partnership “Association of railway equipment manufacturers”, represents Russia’s interests in developing international standards in ISO. EPK heads the interstate technical committee in Russia.
